Safety Information
The ride is not a race, so please linger and take in the natural beauty along the way. The ride route courses through
the scenic Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge managed by the U.S. Fish
&Wildlife Service
http://www.fws.gov/southwest/refuges/oklahoma/wichitamountains/. This is a wildlife refuge, not a national park. The purpose of the refuge is for the protection of game animals, birds
and the only remaining stand of southern mixed grass prairie. Your impact and safety are most important.
Remember – spread out and do not ride in
clusters - do not tie up vehicle traffic - be careful while riding over cattle guards that can cause you to lose balance - do not ride into herds
of bison and longhorns that can charge you - do not drop litter along roads - and do not drink water from creeks or lakes that can make you sick.
Regulations do not allow us to place portable toilets anywhere on the refuge.
The Refuge has restrooms located at its Visitors Center, Mt. Scott Picnic
Area, Elmer Thomas Lake, and Camp Sunset. We will have portable toilets located at the west gate of the refuge, at the Lake Lawtonka dam and elsewhere
along the ride routes.
